Roberto Benigni promotes Saint Francis monologue on Rai1
Actor and director Roberto Benigni appeared on Bruno Vespa’s program, 'Cinque minuti', to promote his upcoming monologue, 'Francesco il Cantico'. The performance is scheduled to air on Rai1 on Sunday, October 4, at 20:30.
During the interview, Benigni discussed the historical and spiritual significance of Saint Francis of Assisi, describing him as a 'great shaper of souls' and the 'first pacifist'. Benigni remarked that the saint would have been an excellent leader of the 'broad field' (campo largo), capable of uniting people without the need for political primaries.
Benigni also touched upon the saint's modernity, noting his relationship with women and his ability to transform human sentiments. He characterized the Franciscan movement as having once been as vast as a 'multinational' before the saint's later years.
