Roberto Casanova, prominent Faenza cardiologist, dies at 79

Roberto Casanova, a prominent cardiologist and long-time medical figure in Faenza, has passed away at the age of 79. He died following a brief illness while receiving care at the San Pier Damiano nursing home.

Casanova’s career spanned over four decades, during which he served as a medical director at the hospitals of Ravenna and Faenza. From February 2002 until March 2013, he served as the director of the Cardiology department at the Faenza hospital. Beyond his clinical duties, he was a vocal advocate for maintaining the hospital's specialized services and preventing the downsizing of local cardiology departments.

He was also a co-founder of the association ‘Amici della Cardiologia ODV’ in 1989 and served as its president since 2016. Through this organization, he promoted medical training, donated diagnostic equipment, and organized community health initiatives, such as cardiac screenings in local schools. Faenza Mayor Massimo Isola expressed condolences, describing Casanova as an extraordinary professional and a pillar of local healthcare.
