Amazonas Governor Roberto Cidade Launches Pre‑Candidacy for 2026 Election

Governor Roberto Cidade (União Brasil) officially announced his pre‑candidacy for re‑election as governor of Amazonas on 7 July. The launch, organized by the Federação União Progressista, emphasized a campaign of dialogue, continuity of the current administration, and delivery of public services. Cidade highlighted recent investments in health, noting that more than R$ 200 million was spent on physician salaries and other health‑sector payments in the last three months, and presented recent infrastructure deliveries such as the renovation of the Fundação Centro de Controle de Oncologia and the opening of a new hospital day‑care unit.

The vice‑governor slot remains undecided; vice‑governor Serafim Corrêa said the choice will be made in the coming days. Cidade also pledged to maintain alliances with municipal leaders across the state and did not confirm any national partnership talks.

Senator Omar Aziz, also a pre‑candidate for the governorship, presented the second phase of his Strategic Development Plan for Amazonas, focusing on health, social assistance and public security. The event gathered mayors, former mayors, state deputies and other political figures, who discussed the plan’s proposals for interior municipalities.

The political landscape is marked by a right‑wing surge that previously helped ex‑governor Wilson Lima defeat Eduardo Braga, and Lima publicly backed Cidade’s candidacy, underscoring the continuity of his administration’s projects.
