Roberto Clemente: Honoring the legacy of 'The Great One

Roberto Clemente, the legendary Puerto Rican baseball player known as ‘The Great One’, is commemorated 92 years after his birth and 54 years after his death. As the first Latino inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973, Clemente remains a premier figure among Puerto Rican players in Major League Baseball.

Before his baseball career, Clemente excelled in track and field, specifically in short-distance running and javelin throwing. His professional baseball journey included playing for the Cangrejeros de Santurce in the Puerto Rican Professional Baseball League and a stint with the Brooklyn Dodgers before joining the Pittsburgh Pirates. During his 18 seasons with the Pirates, he became a historic figure, notably achieving the milestone of 3,000 hits on September 30, 1972.
