Roberto José Mouras Autodrome closed for 180 days due to safety risks

The Roberto José Mouras Autodrome in La Plata has been ordered to close for 180 days following the discovery of severe safety and environmental irregularities. The preventive closure was ratified by Judge Marcela Garmendia following an investigation led by prosecutor María Eugenia Di Lorenzo.

Technical reports from the Argentine Federal Police identified multiple hazards, including 13 electrical irregularities—eight of which are classified as high risk—such as precarious panels and unchanneled conductors. The facility also suffers from inoperative fire suppression systems, severe structural deterioration in the grandstands, and environmental violations including the illegal stockpiling of used tires and improper hazardous waste management.

The investigation was triggered by a complaint from former driver Julio Politano, leading to a raid in May involving over 50 officers, firefighters, and environmental specialists. The closure has caused significant disruption to the racing calendar, forcing the suspension of events including the Turismo Carretera (TC) season finale, Formula One Argentina, and various other regional competitions.
