Roberto Martinez begins new role as UEFA technical observer

Former Belgian and Portuguese national team coach Roberto Martinez has taken on a new role as a technical observer for UEFA. This marks the first period in his coaching career without a club or national team assignment.

In his capacity as an observer, Martinez provides tactical analyses for the UEFA website. During a recent match in Como featuring Cesc Fabregas's side against Manchester United, Martinez focused his analysis on Argentine player Nico Paz. After Paz recorded two goals and an assist, Martinez praised the player's clinical ball control and efficiency, comparing his impact to that of Diego Maradona.
