Robert Moreno appointed interim South Korea football coach

The Korea Football Association (KFA) has appointed Spaniard Robert Moreno as the interim head coach of the South Korean men's national football team. Moreno, 48, becomes the first Spanish manager to lead the squad. He succeeds Hong Myung-bo, who resigned following the team's group-stage exit from the 2026 World Cup.

Moreno's initial contract runs until November 27, 2026, covering six international friendly matches against Ecuador, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Uzbekistan. The KFA has included an option to extend his tenure through the 2027 AFC Asian Cup based on his performance during this period. Moreno will be supported by an all-Spanish coaching staff, including assistant coach Eduardo Docampo.

Moreno brings significant experience, having served as an assistant and interim manager for the Spanish national team and as an assistant coach at FC Barcelona under Luis Enrique. He is noted for his expertise in data analysis and tactical design. His appointment follows an open recruitment process, a first for the KFA, intended to ensure transparency and fairness.
