Robert Moreno names first South Korea national team squad
Robert Moreno, the interim head coach of the South Korean men's national football team, has announced his first 30-man squad for the upcoming September and October A-match window. The roster includes established stars such as captain Son Heung-min, Kim Min-jae, and Lee Kang-in, alongside 12 players from the domestic K League, including Jeong Seung-won and Gu Sung-yu. Notably, Kim Min-su, Park Tae-jun, and Kim Geon-hui have received their first call-ups to the senior national team.
During a press conference in Cheonan, Moreno addressed past allegations regarding his heavy reliance on artificial intelligence (AI) for tactical planning during his tenure at Sochi FC. He dismissed these claims as false and taken out of context, stating that while he utilizes technology for data and video analysis, he does not use ChatGPT for decision-making.
The team is scheduled to play four friendly matches: against Ecuador on September 24, Uruguay on September 28, Venezuela on October 2, and Uzbekistan on October 6. Moreno's tenure is set to run through November 27, with his performance potentially determining whether he remains in charge through the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
