Dominican Republic PRM party faces 2028 election maneuvering

Political activity within the Dominican Republic's ruling Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) is intensifying as figures begin positioning themselves for the 2028 elections. Minister of Culture Roberto Ángel Salcedo has not ruled out a run for the National District Mayoralty, a possibility supported by FNP leader Vinicio Castillo.

Internal dynamics show shifting support, with reports indicating that elements of President Luis Abinader's team are moving to support Tourism Minister David Collado. Legislator Robinson Díaz has claimed Collado possesses significant organizational strength and could secure the presidency. Meanwhile, Guido Gómez Mazara has criticized the idea of selecting a candidate through consensus, arguing that such a move would undermine democratic principles and that candidates must compete through popular vote.

In a separate development, allied parties, including MODA, have formally recognized the leadership of José Ignacio Paliza, praising his role in maintaining party unity and fostering a platform for political maturity within the PRM.
