Roberto Rocha seeks court ruling on party affiliation ahead of 2026 Maranhão election
Former senator Roberto Rocha filed a lawsuit in the 3rd Electoral Zone of São Luís, claiming that a technical delay by Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court prevented his registration with the Partido Renovador Trabalhista Brasileiro (PRTB) before the 4 April 2026 deadline. He asks the court to retroactively recognize his affiliation and insert his record into the electoral system.
On 19 July, Rocha announced via social media that he will run for office in the 2026 elections in Maranhão, reversing an earlier plan to retire from electoral politics. He did not specify which position he will contest, but indicated that a formal party nomination will be made in the coming weeks.
