Roberto Rocha's Maranhão governorship candidacy denied by court
The Regional Electoral Court of Maranhão (TRE/MA) has unanimously denied the candidacy of former senator Roberto Rocha for the governorship of Maranhão. The decision follows a challenge filed by Lariane Telles, a federal deputy candidate for the Novo party.
Judge Sebastião Joaquim Lima Bonfim, the rapporteur for the case, ruled that Rocha failed to demonstrate effective and genuine affiliation with the PRTB party by the required deadline of April 4. The court noted that despite his claimed affiliation with PRTB, Rocha continued to participate in public activities as a member of the Novo party for several months.
In addition to denying the registration, the court ordered that the case files be forwarded to the Electoral Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate potential evidence of fraud and simulation. Rocha maintains the right to appeal the decision to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
