Roberto Santana Sánchez undergoes medical treatment in Boston

Roberto Santana Sánchez, the Director of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC) and former rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), is undergoing medical treatment in Boston, Massachusetts, due to serious health issues.

Following a successful surgery in August to remove a malignant lesion from his bladder, Santana Sánchez was transferred to the United States for more intensive treatment after continued health complications.

In response to his condition, family and friends have organized a mass for his recovery to be held on October 15, 2026, at the UASD Faculty of Juridical and Political Sciences. Additionally, Bishop Jesús Castro Marte of the Diocese of Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia expressed his spiritual solidarity via social media, offering prayers for Santana Sánchez's strength and recovery.
