Roberto Sergio to leave Rai as Director General on September 30

Roberto Sergio, the Director General of Rai, has announced his decision to leave the Italian public broadcaster on September 30, 2026. Sergio, who has been with the company for over 22 years, clarified that his departure is a personal choice and does not coincide with his scheduled retirement, which is set for June 1, 2027.

While leaving Rai, Sergio has expressed interest in potentially remaining in his role as Director General of San Marino RTV. He stated he will independently evaluate whether to continue leading the Sammarinese broadcaster through its current development phase or to pursue new professional opportunities.

The Rai Board of Directors is expected to address the future management of San Marino RTV in upcoming meetings. Following Sergio's departure, CEO Giampaolo Rossi is expected to assume interim responsibilities.
