Roberto Vannacci’s Futuro Nazionale draws former centre‑right MPs and eyes 2027 Rome mayoral run

Former army general Roberto Vannacci has transformed his Futuro Nazionale movement into a nascent political party. The group announced a national constituent assembly in Rome and claimed roughly 94,000 registered members.

Vannacci’s party has attracted four sitting parliamentarians – Attilio Pierro, Davide Bergamini, Gianangelo Bof and Domenico Furgiuele – as well as former Lega MEP Antonio Maria Rinaldi. At an event in the Eur district, Vannacci declared Futuro Nazionale will field its own candidate for the 2027 Rome mayoral election and will run a slate in the city’s municipal contest.

The movement’s growth has prompted reactions from the centre‑right coalition. Prime Minister‑designate Giorgia Meloni and League leader Matteo Salvini noted the loss of votes to Vannacci, while local leaders such as senator Umberto Fusco praised turnout at a Futuro Nazionale rally in Montefiascone. Vannacci also signaled willingness to join a coalition provided “red lines” on core values are respected, rejecting any compromise on the party’s nationalist platform.
