Roberto Vannacci’s Futuro Nazionale Overtakes Lega in Polls

Recent Italian polls show Roberto Vannacci’s new party Futuro Nazionale at 5.9%, edging the long‑standing Lega’s 5.8% share. The YouTrend/Sky TG24 survey, released on 18 June, records a 1.5‑point rise for Futuro Nazionale and a slight dip for the Lega, while the centre‑left field remains ahead. Analysts note that Futuro Nazionale is attracting voters from across the right‑wing spectrum – former Lega supporters, disillusioned Fratelli d’Italia voters, and even some former M5S backers – as well as a sizable portion of independents and abstainers.

The surge has prompted strategic responses within the centre‑right coalition. In Milan, the Lega’s internal primaries elected Matteo Salvini and Silvia Sardone as the most popular mayoral candidates, while Vannacci warned that his movement will field its own candidate. He also criticised the Institute for Graphic Arts’ “Grafica Pride” event, describing it as evidence of a “fluid right” mimicking left‑wing policies. Public opinion surveys show 19 % overall favourable views of Vannacci, rising to 34 % among centre‑right voters and 37 % among Lega supporters.

Vannacci downplays poll numbers, saying he trusts street‑level feedback more than surveys, but his party’s rise is already reshaping intra‑right negotiations and could affect coalition calculations ahead of the next national election.
