Roberto Vannacci seminar sparks police training controversy in Turin
A political and union controversy has erupted in Turin regarding a seminar titled ‘Urban Insecurity: The Role of Institutions and Entrepreneurs’ scheduled for September 18. The event, organized by police unions Fsp and Fmpi, features MEP Roberto Vannacci, leader of Futuro Nazionale, as a speaker.
The controversy centers on the event's initial classification as a professional training activity for police officers, which was authorized by the Turin Questura. The Silp Cgil Piemonte union has formally requested the revocation of this status, arguing that Vannacci's political presence violates the requirements of technical neutrality and impartiality mandated by the Constitution and the Code of Conduct for public employees.
In response to the backlash, the Department of Public Security intervened to clarify that the seminar will not be recognized as official professional training. Instead, it will be treated as a standard union assembly. Consequently, police officers will not be granted training credits, and the participation of the Questore has been removed from the program.
Amidst the debate, recent polling from the Antonio Noto Institute indicates that Vannacci's political formation, Futuro Nazionale, has seen a rise in voter intention, reaching 8%.
