Roberto Vecchione wins sixth Italian harness racing title in Montegiorgio

Driver Roberto Vecchione secured his sixth Italian title at the Ippodromo San Paolo in Montegiorgio during the 2026 Italian Harness Racing Championship. Vecchione achieved the victory through a notable comeback in the Gran Premio Basilio Mattii held in Desiderio.

The event at the San Paolo racecourse also highlighted the historical significance of the venue. In 1998, the legendary trotter Varenne achieved a dominant victory at the Gran Premio Marche in Montegiorgio, a performance that helped cement his status as a global racing icon before his subsequent triumph in the Italian Derby.
