Marcello Fois wins 64th Premio Campiello for ‘L’immensa distrazione’

Marcello Fois has won the 64th edition of the Premio Campiello with his novel ‘L’immensa distrazione’, published by Einaudi. The announcement took place at the Palazzo del Cinema at the Lido in Venice, marking the first time the ceremony was held at this location.

In a close competition decided by the Jury of Three Hundred Anonymous Readers, Fois secured 83 votes. He narrowly defeated Alcide Pierantozzi, who received 80 votes for his novel ‘Lo sbilico’. Elena Varvello took third place with 54 votes for ‘La vita sempre’.

Fois dedicated his victory to the memory of the late writer Michela Murgia, describing her as a resilient and beautiful woman. His winning novel follows the saga of the Manfredini family, an Emilian dynasty, tracing their journey from a modest slaughterhouse to an industrial empire throughout the 20th century, touching on themes of war, the Holocaust, and family secrets.
