Roberts Bank Terminal 2 launches community investment program with $150,000 first‑round funding
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has opened the first round of the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 community investment program. Delta‑area organizations can apply for up to $150,000 in funding for projects that deliver lasting local benefits or enhance conservation, with applications due by 4 p.m. on 10 Sept 2026.
Port officials said the three‑berth container terminal will eventually unlock about $100 billion of annual trade capacity, create more than 7,400 construction jobs and over 1,000 permanent positions, and help diversify Canadian exports beyond the United States. Alexa Young, vice‑president of government, external and environmental affairs, emphasized that strong communities make the port better. Minister Jill McKnight highlighted the program’s role in sharing benefits with neighbouring communities, Tsawwassen First Nation and Musqueam Indian Band, and noted future funding rounds, including $300,000 in pre‑construction grants for 2026‑27, $200,000 for community‑space enhancements, a $500,000 education fund and $5 million for construction‑phase projects. The initiative also aligns with agreements with 27 First Nations to provide jobs and training opportunities.
