Robin Das faces trial for twin rape charges
Former Essex County Cricket Club batter Robin Das appeared at the Inner London Crown Court on Friday regarding charges of twin rape. Das, a British-Bangladeshi player, was granted conditional bail ahead of a scheduled five-day trial set for January 2028.
The Metropolitan Police arrested Das in August 2025 following reports of sexual assaults occurring in Brixton in March 2024. He was officially charged with two counts of rape in July.
Essex County Cricket Club confirmed that Das’s playing contract was terminated before the end of the 2026 season. The club noted that the decision followed his initial suspension and subsequent inability to fulfill playing commitments. In an official statement, the club emphasized that the contractual termination was separate from the ongoing legal proceedings and reaffirmed its commitment to strict safeguarding and disciplinary protocols.
