Schalke 04 youth teams face mixed results as U19 wins DFB‑Pokal tie, U23 loses, and new signing Gosens injured

On 2 August the FC Schalke 04 U19 played its first mandatory match of the season in the first round of the DFB‑Pokal against SV Rödinghausen. The Swiss forward Timo Wiesner scored a hat‑trick (71′, 79′) and the team won 3‑1, securing a place in the second round. The match was streamed live on Schalke04TV+.

The Schalke 04 U23 opened their season against the SC Paderborn U23. After taking a 2‑0 lead through goals by Edion Gashi and Jean‑Paul Ndiaye, the visitors equalised and then won 3‑2 with a last‑minute strike by Joel Udelhoven. Coach Jakob Fimpel described the defeat as “as bitter as a season‑opening match can get.”

In a separate friendly at the Auestadion, Schalke 04 defeated KSV Hessen Kassel 5‑0 before an audience of about 18 000. New left‑back Robin Gosens, signed on loan from Fiorentina, suffered a thigh injury after roughly ten minutes and may be unavailable for several weeks pending further medical assessment. The club continues its search for additional left‑back options, monitoring players such as Will Ferry.
