Hugh Jackman's 'The Death of Robin Hood' darkens the legend
Michael Sarnoski’s new film "The Death of Robin Hood" starring Hugh Jackman premieres on 3 July 2026. The movie reimagines the medieval outlaw as a tormented, violent figure haunted by a brutal past. Jackman portrays a dying Robin who wanders 13th‑century England, while Jodie Comer plays Sister Brigid, a caretaker inspired by Hildegard von Bingen. Bill Skarsgård appears as a grim Little John and the cast also includes Murray Bartlett and Noah Jupe.
The trailer emphasizes stark realism, graphic violence and a philosophical inner‑conflict, positioning the story as a deconstruction of the heroic myth. Sarnoski argues that Robin Hood likely never existed as a single person, but rather emerged from multiple outlaws over centuries. Set in 1274, the film seeks to depict medieval life with unflinching cruelty, moving away from the romanticized versions popularized by earlier cinema.
Produced by A24 and shot for an international audience, the film is slated for release in Italy on 12 August 2026 and in other territories later in the summer.
