Robin Smullen-Tagg wins inaugural D. Wayne Lukas Award

Robin Smullen-Tagg has been named the inaugural recipient of the D. Wayne Lukas Award, presented by the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association (NYTHA). The award was established to recognize New York-based assistant trainers who demonstrate exceptional dedication, work ethic, and commitment to excellence.

Smullen-Tagg has served as the primary assistant to trainer Barclay Tagg for more than 26 years. Her expertise was instrumental in the success of notable New York-bred Classic winners, including Funny Cide and Tiz the Law, both campaigned by Sackatoga Stable. NYTHA President Tina Marie Bond described Smullen-Tagg as a “consummate horsewoman” who is widely respected within the New York racing community.

The award includes a trophy and a $10,000 prize. The official presentation is scheduled for September 2 at Saratoga, coinciding with the birthday of the Hall of Fame trainer for whom the award is named.
