Robinhood CEO sells $42.6M in stock amid record margin debt growth
Robinhood Markets CEO Vladimir Tenev sold 375,000 shares of company stock on October 5th at an average price of $113.72, totaling approximately $42.6 million. This transaction, executed under a pre-arranged Rule 10b5-1 trading plan, represents a 50% decrease in his position. This follows previous sales by Tenev in September, where he sold hundreds of thousands of shares at higher average prices.
Separately, Robinhood reported a significant surge in its margin lending business. The company’s margin book reached a record $21.6 billion at the end of the second quarter of 2026, marking a 127% increase year-over-year and a 332% increase since the second quarter of 2024. While Robinhood notes that margin users are among its most active traders, the rapid growth in leverage occurs as total US margin debt reaches a record $1.5 trillion.
