Robinhood CEO urges U.S. policymakers to expand tokenized stock access

Robinhood CEO and Co-Founder Vlad Tenev is urging U.S. policymakers to modernize securities laws and regulations to allow for the use of tokenized stocks. Tenev argues that while market participants are shifting toward blockchain-based systems, American regulations must evolve to provide better infrastructure and maintain investor protections.

Through the Robinhood Chain, a Layer 2 blockchain designed for real-world assets, the company has already facilitated stock tokens for users in over 120 countries, providing exposure to more than 190 U.S. stocks. Tenev noted that the Robinhood Chain has reached 100 million transactions since its launch.

Despite international availability, tokenized stock products are not yet available to investors within the United States. Tenev highlighted that tokenization offers benefits such as real-time settlement, 24/7 trading capabilities, increased market resilience, and greater asset control. He warned that if U.S. policymakers do not act quickly, other jurisdictions may lead the way in building the future of ownership around American assets.
