Robinhood Chain approaches end of gas fee subsidies
Robinhood Chain, an Ethereum Layer-2 built on Arbitrum Orbit technology, is approaching a significant transition as its 90-day gas reimbursement period for Robinhood Wallet transactions ends on September 29, 2026. Following this deadline, users will be required to pay network fees in ETH, marking a major stress test for the ecosystem, particularly for the memecoins and trading bots that drive much of the network's activity.
Since its launch on July 1, 2026, the chain has seen rapid growth. Stock Tokens—ERC-20 representations of US equities and ETFs such as Nvidia, Apple, and GameStop—have generated approximately $9.7 billion in trading volume over a 30-day period. While these tokens offer exposure to stock price movements, they do not grant legal ownership or voting rights and are unavailable to US persons.
In addition to equity tokens, the network has seen massive volume from memecoins and the launchpad Pons. As of mid-September, the Total Value Locked (TVL) approached $1 billion, and the stablecoin market cap on the chain exceeded $1 billion. Data indicates that a significant portion of stock token trading occurs outside NYSE hours, capturing market demand that traditional brokers cannot serve.
