Robinhood Chain launchpad Noxa shuts down, triggering memecoin plunge

The Noxa launchpad, which had driven more than 60,000 token launches on the Robinhood Chain and generated over $12 million in protocol fees in two weeks, announced its closure on July 11. The shutdown prompted a sharp sell‑off; the flagship memecoin CASHCAT fell more than 33% within 24 hours, erasing a market‑cap peak of $226 million and raising doubts about the viability of the chain’s memecoin ecosystem.

Robinhood, the commission‑free trading app, has also become a widespread internet meme. Its bright green interface, confetti animations and low‑commission model spawned a genre of jokes about reckless day‑trading and options gambling. The meme culture intensified after a surge of new accounts in 2020, with screenshots of volatile portfolios spreading across Reddit and Twitter. A tragic incident in June 2020, when a user died after seeing a large negative balance, further cemented the app’s ironic reputation.

Both the crypto launchpad shutdown and the broader meme phenomenon highlight the challenges and public perception surrounding Robinhood’s rapid growth in finance and blockchain services.
