Robinhood adds $25 million in Bitcoin to corporate balance sheet

Robinhood has announced its first proprietary purchase of Bitcoin, adding approximately $25 million worth of BTC to its corporate balance sheet. Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Crypto and International, stated that the move is a strategic decision intended to align the company more closely with the cryptocurrency ecosystem and diversify its assets.

While the $25 million allocation is modest relative to Robinhood’s roughly $100 billion market capitalization and its reported cash reserves, it marks a shift from the company acting solely as a facilitator for customer trades to becoming a direct holder of digital assets. This decision follows previous internal debates regarding whether holding Bitcoin would benefit shareholders.

The purchase is distinct from the much larger volume of digital assets Robinhood holds in custody for its customers. On-chain data from Arkham Intelligence indicates that the platform manages approximately $25 billion in various cryptocurrencies on behalf of its users, including a significant amount of Bitcoin, Ether, and Dogecoin.
