Robinhood rejects AMC demand to halt tokenized stock trading

Robinhood has rejected a demand from AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron to halt the trading of AMC-linked stock tokens. The dispute centers on the legal nature of tokenized equities, which offer exposure to a stock's price via blockchain technology without granting the same voting rights or direct ownership stakes held by traditional shareholders.

Adam Aron criticized the offering, questioning how a product marketed from Jersey could avoid being subject to U.S. securities protections. In response, Robinhood’s legal chief Dan Gallagher refused to cease trading and challenged AMC to have its lawyers present a formal case. Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev has backed this position.

The conflict has also triggered speculative activity in the cryptocurrency market, including the rapid rise of a meme coin linked to the dispute, highlighting the volatility and social media-driven nature of tokenized asset controversies.
