Robinhood Secures FCA Registration to Launch UK Crypto Trading
Robinhood's UK subsidiary has been added to the Financial Conduct Authority's register of crypto‑asset firms, meeting the regulator's money‑laundering requirements. The registration allows the platform to begin offering crypto trading in the United Kingdom around 1 July 2026, one day after the FCA publishes its final rules for a sweeping new cryptoasset regime. By entering the market before the licensing window opens in September 2026 (running to February 2027) and before the full framework is implemented in October 2027, Robinhood can build a customer base under the current, lighter AML‑focused rules.
The move builds on Robinhood’s 2020 acquisition of Ziglu Ltd, which gave the company existing FCA authorisation and local infrastructure. Robinhood joins roughly 50 other firms on the register, including PayPal, BlackRock and Gemini. The FCA’s upcoming framework will cover trading, custody and issuance of crypto assets, aiming to boost confidence and attract millions of new customers to the UK market. Robinhood’s early entry positions it against rivals such as Coinbase and Kraken as the UK prepares for tighter regulation.
