Robinson Canó to play for Tomateros de Culiacán following CBPC ruling

The Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CBPC) has issued a final ruling regarding the professional future of Dominican veteran Robinson Canó for the 2026-27 winter season. The organization ruled in favor of the Mexican team Tomateros de Culiacán, determining that Canó must fulfill his commitment to the club in the Mexican Pacific League.

The decision settles a dispute with the Dominican team Estrellas Orientales, which had claimed rights to the player for the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). The controversy stemmed from LIDOM free agency regulations, which prevent players from joining other CBPC member leagues if their Dominican team offers at least 75% of their previous season's salary.

The 48-hour window to appeal the decision has expired, making the ruling final. Consequently, Canó is set to play in Mexico during the upcoming campaign.
