Roblox announces standalone app support and new creator digital wallet

At its annual developer conference in San Jose, Roblox Corporation announced a major strategic shift titled ‘Roblox Everywhere.’ The initiative aims to expand the platform’s reach by allowing developers to release games as standalone applications for mobile devices, PCs, and consoles, rather than requiring the use of the proprietary Roblox client.

As part of this expansion, the company plans to launch a web-based player by the end of this year, enabling users to access games directly through browsers like Google Chrome via shared links. Additionally, an offline mode for playing without an internet connection is scheduled for release in mid-2027.

To support its creator economy, Roblox is introducing a new digital wallet managed by Airwallex. This tool is designed to automate the conversion of virtual Robux into real-world currency, allowing creators to receive revenue on business days. The wallet will debut in December for adult creators in the United States, with an international rollout and a dedicated payment card expected in 2027. Since 2013, Roblox has paid out over $5 billion to its creators.

Technological updates also include native support for 2D games and the expansion of the ‘Build’ AI tool, which generates virtual environments from text commands, into alpha testing in Serbia and Singapore.
