Roblox introduces chat restrictions amid expert warnings it may not stop child predators

Roblox announced that, starting in June, it will implement age‑based user groups that prevent younger players from accessing the chat window, aiming to limit their exposure to adult accounts.

Estonia’s media‑literacy expert Inger Klesment and Latvian police officer Maarja Punak cautioned that such restrictions are unlikely to stop offenders, who can create fake accounts, shift conversations to other apps, and seek illicit images or blackmail. Punak cited a case where a child received a private photo and a phone number belonging to a convicted pedophile.

The Joel Bieber Law Firm advises parents to recognize grooming signs, preserve digital evidence, and consider legal action against Roblox when the platform facilitates abuse.
