Robot Vacuums Gain Ground as Brands Tackle Consumer Misconceptions

Executives from leading robot‑vacuum makers say the technology is ready for mainstream adoption, but outdated consumer perceptions hinder market share. Michael Meng, president of Dreame’s robotic vacuum division, notes that although robot vacuums still lag behind stick and upright models, the shift toward automated, hands‑free cleaning is inevitable. Faraz Mehdi of Eufy points to lingering doubts about cleaning performance and mopping with dirty water, while Ricky Ma of Roborock stresses that the devices are now intelligent cleaning systems rather than novelty gadgets.

Industry analysis shows rapid product evolution after iRobot’s 2025 bankruptcy filing. Flagship models from Dreame, Roborock and Ecovacs now exceed 30,000 Pa suction, feature advanced LiDAR navigation, and offer self‑cleaning docks. The Roborock S8 Max Ultra, with its 8,000 Pa HyperForce motor and 140 °F hot‑water mop wash, is highlighted as the top choice for most homes in 2026. Mid‑range and budget units have also adopted premium features such as obstacle‑avoidance sensors and extended battery life, expanding consumer options.
