Robotic lawn mower battery maintenance and winter storage
Proper maintenance of robotic lawn mowers during winter storage is critical to preventing permanent battery damage. For lithium-ion batteries, storing them either completely full or completely empty can lead to significant degradation.
To ensure longevity, batteries should be kept at a partial charge level between 40% and 60%. Storing a battery at 100% charge accelerates chemical degradation due to high voltage, while storing it empty can lead to deep discharge, which may irreversibly damage the cells and prevent the charger from recognizing the battery in the spring.
Ideal storage conditions include a dry environment protected from frost, with temperatures maintained between 10°C and 15°C, such as a cellar. Additionally, the charging station should be disconnected or brought indoors to ensure the device remains safe during the off-season.
