Robotic pets introduced to assist dementia patients in UK hospital

The Alzheimer's Society has donated two robotic pets, a cat and a dog, to the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Trust to assist patients living with dementia at Colchester Hospital. These lifelike companion animals are designed to move their heads and ears, blink, and respond to being stroked or brushed.

The technology aims to reduce feelings of loneliness and anxiety while improving the overall mood of patients. Hospital staff reported that the robotic animals have already proven effective in calming severely agitated patients by providing a sense of companionship and evoking familiar memories of pets.
