Robotic surgery advances prostate cancer and enlargement treatments

Medical professionals in Turkey are utilizing advanced robotic technologies to treat prostate conditions. At Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital, a 62-year-old patient successfully underwent robot-assisted radical prostatectomy following a prostate cancer diagnosis. Associate Professor Dr. Resul Sobay noted that robotic surgery allows for high precision and three-dimensional imaging, which helps in removing cancerous tissue while minimizing impact on urinary and sexual functions.

In a separate clinical demonstration at Liv Hospital Vadistanbul, Professor Dr. Volkan Tuğcu performed a live surgical procedure using the Da Vinci Single Port robotic system. The event, organized alongside the Turkish Urology Association and other medical bodies, showcased modern techniques for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia, including single-port surgery, laser surgeries like HoLEP and ThuFLEP, and Rezum water vapor therapy. The single-port method is highlighted for its ability to minimize urethral stricture risks.
