Robotics and technology initiatives expand in Brazilian education

Educational initiatives in Brazil are increasingly focusing on robotics and technology to prepare students for the modern workforce. The Social Service of Industry (SESI) has been integrating robotics into education for over a decade, organizing FIRST competitions in Brazil since 2012. These programs have engaged more than 45,000 students, with current seasons involving approximately 1,500 teams and 10,000 students.

These activities utilize the STEAM model (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) to provide practical learning. Beyond technical skills like programming and physics, the programs aim to develop socio-emotional competencies such as collaboration, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

In the Distrito Federal, there is a push to expand these technological programs within public schools. Officials emphasize that education must evolve alongside advancements in artificial intelligence and automation to ensure students are prepared for future economic demands and the job market.
