Robotics companies focus on navigation and human safety

The deployment of autonomous delivery and humanoid robots is facing increasing scrutiny regarding navigation and human interaction. Delivery robots, operated by companies such as Starship Technologies, Serve Robotics, and DoorDash, have expanded to dozens of cities globally. However, these machines often struggle with environmental variables like construction or broken sidewalks, leading to property damage and pedestrian interference.

In response to the need for better human-robot coexistence, Agility Robotics has introduced Digit 5, a humanoid robot designed with a complex safe motion system. Utilizing proprietary AI and sensor technologies, the robot is programmed to monitor for human presence and autonomously avoid, stop, or assume a seated position to minimize obstruction. This development follows previous safety testing aimed at meeting Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards as companies like Hyundai look toward integrating humanoid robots into human workplaces.
