Robotics industry shifts toward emotional AI and specialized services at major Asian tech fairs

Recent technology exhibitions in Hong Kong and Guangzhou have highlighted the rapid evolution of embodied AI and robotics, shifting from purely industrial tools toward emotional companionship and specialized service roles.

At the 2026 Hong Kong Autumn Electronics Fair, the migo robot gained significant attention for its focus on “emotional companionship” rather than traditional productivity metrics. Designed to act as a “new family member,” the robot features empathetic interactions, such as responding to touch with facial expressions and evolving its personality through daily user interaction.

Simultaneously, at the 140th Canton Fair in Guangzhou, various Chinese enterprises demonstrated the practical versatility of robotics. Dongyi Technology showcased the PHYBOT C series, a bipedal humanoid robot capable of interactive sports like badminton and guiding visitors. Other exhibitors presented robots for healthcare, such as elderly care companions that monitor vital signs, and industrial models like the Lidian F1, designed for high-precision assembly and material handling. Specialized robots were also featured for railway maintenance, capable of operating in extreme environments to perform autonomous inspections and fastening tasks.
