Robotics may support elderly care amid demographic shifts
As the global population ages, the gap between the number of elderly individuals requiring care and the available workforce is widening. A recent publication by the Poland-Japan Foundation, authored by Dr. Honorata Dudek-Frysiak and Dr. Małgorzata Patok, explores whether humanoid robots integrated with artificial intelligence could serve as a pillar for new care architectures.
The authors suggest that robots should not be viewed as substitutes for human empathy, but rather as complementary physical support in areas where human capital is limited due to biological or economic constraints. This approach mirrors developments in Japan, where robotics is being actively developed to address demographic crises and personnel shortages in elderly care.
