Energy disruptions reported in Argentina and Colombia

Scheduled power outages are affecting multiple regions in Argentina and Colombia due to maintenance and climate concerns.

In Argentina, the province of Córdoba is experiencing service interruptions in various locations, including the capital, Villa María, Río Cuarto, and Canals. These outages, driven by transformer maintenance and new infrastructure works, affect numerous neighborhoods such as Villa Cabrera, Nuevo Urca, and several sectors in Río Cuarto.

In Colombia, Enel Colombia has announced scheduled electricity suspensions for Saturday, August 29, 2026, affecting several localities in Bogotá, including Fontibón, Los Mártires, Puente Aranda, Santa Fe, Suba, and Usme, as well as the municipalities of Chía and Soacha.

Separately, concerns are rising regarding potential long-term energy rationing in Colombia. Natalia Gutiérrez, president of the Colombian Association of Energy Generators (Acolgen), warned that the El Niño phenomenon could significantly reduce water reserves in hydroelectric reservoirs. This climate event could lead to energy shortages or blackouts as late as the first half of 2027 if necessary measures are not implemented.
