Rocafort Tunnel construction to transform Sant Julià de Lòria

Construction is underway for the Rocafort Tunnel in Sant Julià de Lòria, Andorra, with an expected completion date in July 2027. The 233-meter project aims to alleviate traffic congestion on the CG-1, a major artery that sees up to 25,000 vehicles daily. The tunnel will feature three lanes: two heading south toward the Spanish border and one heading north toward Andorra la Vella.

Beyond improving traffic flow, the project is central to a broader urban transformation strategy. Officials expect the tunnel to reduce CO2 emissions in Sant Julià de Lòria by 41%. The local government plans to use the project as an opportunity for "semi-pedestrianization," prioritizing pedestrians in the town center and remodeling key areas such as the Verge de Canòlich avenue and various public squares. The total cost of the works is estimated at approximately 25 million euros.
