Rocco Casalino awarded 75,000 euros in defamation ruling

The civil court of Brindisi has ordered Roberto D’Agostino, founder of a digital news site, to pay 75,000 euros in damages to Rocco Casalino. The ruling follows a defamation lawsuit regarding articles and social media posts concerning Casalino’s former role as spokesperson for Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

The court found the content harmful to Casalino’s dignity, noting that the case was aggravated by a homophobic photomontage used in a social media post. In addition to the damages, D’Agostino must pay over 14,000 euros in legal costs and immediately remove the contested digital content. D’Agostino has expressed his intention to appeal the decision.
