Rochas Okorocha challenges APC senatorial nomination in court

Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Abuja challenging the nomination of Governor Hope Uzodimma as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1854/2026, names the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Governor Uzodimma, and the APC as respondents. Okorocha is seeking a judicial declaration affirming him as the rightful candidate and an injunction to prevent INEC from recognizing Uzodimma as the official flagbearer.

In a supporting affidavit, Amen Okorocha, the former governor’s son and Personal Assistant on Political Matters, asserted that his father won the APC direct primary held on May 18. The affidavit claims Okorocha secured 150,780 votes compared to Uzodimma’s 102,158 votes. The legal challenge seeks to determine if INEC is bound by the reports submitted by officials who monitored the primary election.
