Roche Diagnostics and San Raffaele launch pharmacy-based medical testing service

Roche Diagnostics and IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele have launched a new integrated healthcare project in Italy that allows for medical analysis reporting directly within pharmacies. The service utilizes simple capillary finger prick samples to conduct tests, with results being validated by the San Raffaele Hospital Laboratory and returned to patients in real time.

Following a successful pilot phase in five pharmacies across the Lombardy and Piedmont regions, the service is set to expand to participating pharmacies throughout the country. The project was presented in a press conference involving several major organizations, including Federfarma, the Federation of Italian Pharmacists' Orders (FOFI), the Italian Society of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (SIPMeL), and Cittadinanzattiva.

Currently, the available tests include lipid profile monitoring (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides) for cardiovascular risk assessment, blood glucose and HbA1c measurements for diabetes management, and C-reactive protein (CRP) testing to detect inflammatory states.
