Roche reports positive Phase-III results for Sefaxersen in IgA nephropathy

Roche has announced positive interim results from its Phase-III Imagination study regarding the investigational drug Sefaxersen for patients with IgA nephropathy (IgAN). Data presented at the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) congress indicates that Sefaxersen reduced proteinuria by 43.1 percent compared to a placebo after 37 weeks.

Proteinuria, the excretion of protein in urine, is a critical indicator of kidney damage. The observed efficacy was consistent across all predefined patient groups. Roche reported that the safety profile remains consistent with previous Phase-II study results, with no new safety signals identified.

Sefaxersen is being developed as a monthly subcutaneous injection, which would allow patients to administer the treatment themselves at home. The Imagination study will continue to monitor the development of kidney function over a two-year period.
