Roche suspends new investments in Germany

The Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche has announced a suspension of all future investment decisions in Germany. The company cited a significant loss of confidence in the German government's healthcare policies as the primary driver for this decision.

Roche leadership, specifically Daniel Steiners, criticized the federal government's austerity measures, particularly the planned additional manufacturer discounts for medicinal products under the GKV contribution rate stabilization law. The company argues that these measures seek short-term budgetary relief at the expense of the industry and fail to address the structural financing issues of statutory health insurance.

While previously approved projects will continue, the freeze on new investments threatens long-term industrial growth and job creation in the German pharmaceutical sector, where Roche currently employs more than 18,000 people.
