Rochester and Albany implement resident-driven municipal initiatives
Municipalities in New York are utilizing resident feedback to shape local policy and infrastructure.
The City of Rochester has launched an online survey and scheduled a telephone town hall to gather public input for its 2027-2028 fiscal year budget. The feedback aims to guide spending on city services and programs intended to improve quality of life. The budget is expected to be made public and submitted to the City Council in May. Additionally, the Office of Management and Budget will attend several community events through October to engage with residents.
In Albany, the city administration reported progress on initiatives driven by the ‘Activate Albany’ survey. Key developments include street improvements such as sidewalk installations, lead service line replacements, and street resurfacing across three neighborhoods. The city is also implementing pedestrian safety measures in Washington Park and continuing public safety efforts through the Albany Police Department’s Gun Involved Violence Initiative, which connects at-risk youth and families with resources.
