Rochester authorities arrest suspects in shooting and homicide cases

Authorities in Rochester, New York, have made arrests in two separate violent incidents.

Jaquawn Johnson, 36, was apprehended by the United States Marshal’s Task Force after being found hiding in a bed at a residence on First Street. Johnson is charged with attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree, and multiple weapons possession charges. The charges stem from a June 6 incident on North Clinton Avenue, where a man in his 30s was shot multiple times while sitting in his vehicle outside a grocery store.

In a separate case, Jonathan Shearin, 34, faces charges related to the July murder of 77-year-old Marc Stekloff. Police report that Stekloff was stabbed over three dozen times in his North Union Street apartment. Investigators believe Shearin assaulted the victim, stole his car keys, and fled in the victim's vehicle. Shearin, a predicate felon, had previously been arrested in Wayne County on July 2 for three separate home invasions involving six elderly victims.
